Our friends over at Intravid.com give us their thoughts on Joe Jitsu’s performance last night as well as what is next for the Team Alpha Male fighter.
Last night Joseph Benavidez strengthened his claim as the number one flyweight contender with his third consecutive victory. He needed just three minutes to put away Jussier Formiga with a wicked striking combo that was followed up with a well-placed knee to the body. Fighting in enemy territory proved to be no problem as Benavidez notched his second knockout victory in a row. In my opinion, this makes the rematch between him and champion Demetrious Johnson inevitable. Their first encounter took place about a year ago to determine who would be the first UFC flyweight champion in history. They had a competitive five-round affair but Johnson was simply one step ahead that night and left the cage as the company’s inaugural champion. It was a tough pill for Benavidez to swallow, but he has since made the appropriate changes and now looks better than ever. Johnson has successfully defended the belt twice against a pair of top contenders, and since Benavidez has defeated three straight top-ten flyweights as well, the 125 pound landscape really has only these two guys left standing.
