Our friends over at give us their thoughts on what could be next for UFC Fight Night 30 main event competitors…

UFC Fight Night 30 in Manchester this past weekend was another card that looked like it would be fantastic on paper. Although the card was by no means a failure the co-main and main event did not seem to live up to the hype they had received in the weeks leading up to the fight. Unfortunate events unfolded as Melvin Guillard delivered an illegal knee to a downed Ross Pearson that resulted in the bout being called a no contest. The strikes by Melvin did not seem at all intentional as they were delivered right along the gray area of the rules defining delivering head blows to a downed opponent but intentional or not, the fight was stopped and will need to happen again at a later date. After the all too abbreviated co-main event fans were hoping for a war between middleweights Lyoto Machida and Mark Munoz. The bout delivered a knockout as Machida finished Munoz with a head kick in the very first round, but fans seemed to have been hoping for more after just under two-minutes of action. Although we certainly did not get the amazing fight we were hoping for, the finish was decisive and leaves both fighters involved in interesting positions in their career.
