Our friends over at Intravid.com give us their fight picks for UFC 160 this Saturday.
Cain Velasquez vs Bigfoot Silva
These two fought a year ago almost to the day and it was a very one sided victory for Cain. This fight however is for the heavyweight title but shouldn’t change the outcome. Velasquez has an advantage in wrestling, speed, and stamina that should be deciding factors on Saturday.
Junior Dos Santos vs Mark Hunt
Winner: Dos Santos
JDS and Cain are the two best heavyweights right now. Dos Santos should have an advantage everywhere, but a big advantage on the ground and in cardio. If the former champ is not finding success using his boxing he can easily take the fight to the ground and utilize his BJJ game which we have yet to see much of because he always has a significant striking advantage.
James Te Huna vs Glover Teixeira
Teixeira is on a roll right now and is carrying a ton of momentum. He has been steamrolling over his competition while Te Huna has been in very competitive, back and forth fights. Te Huna is a stud but this a big step up in competition.
T.J. Grant vs. Gray Maynard
Gray’s wrestling should be the deciding factor in this fight. Grant has looked very good as of late but with this being a title eliminator expect Maynard to play it safe and use his wrestling to control the fight. Can’t blame him for taking few risks when a big fight and big payday is on the horizon with a win.
Donald Cerrone vs KJ Noons
This is an excellent fight between two very talented strikers. Though the big advantage here is Cerrone’s ground game. If the fight is not going his way on the feet look for Cowboy to take him down and try for a submission.
Rick Story vs Mike Pyle
Story is younger, more aggressive, and hits harder though Pyle is a crafty veteran who you can never count out.
Dennis Bermudez vs Max Holloway
Wrestling will be the key for Bermudez here. Still Holloway is a very dynamic striker with excellent body shots and a bright future in this sport. This is just a tough matchup for the young Hawaiian.
Robert Whittaker vs Colton Smith
Look for smith to use his wrestling to control the fight. Might not be an extremely entertaining though and Smith will without a doubt thank the Marines for his strength.
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Abel Trujillo
Trujillo could be very good in this sport as he looked great against star wrestler Marcus LaVesseur, but we haven’t seen enough of him to know for sure yet. Nurmagomedov is a killer who is undefeated in his career and has a UFC record of 3-0, whatever you do make sure not to miss this fight.
Stephen Wonderboy Thompson vs Nah-Shon Burrell
Thompson is an excellent striker, so much that GSP has said he is the best stand up sparring partner he has. That’s a big compliment coming from the divisions best. Burrell will for sure try and take this fight to the ground and might succeed a few times but all it takes with Thompson is one clean shot.
George Roop vs Brian Bowles
Bowles is coming off a long layoff and Roop looked excellent when he made his return 135 lbs at UFC 158. Still Bowles is extremely tough and this should be a back and forth, exciting fight.
Jeremy Stephens vs Estevan Payan
Stephens had some of the heaviest hands at lightweight and with this being his debut at featherweight look for him to bring that power down to his new weight class.
